Frontier Communications’ 3 Year Investment in Illinois Tops $211 million

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.  – April 30, 2014 – Frontier Communications (NASDAQ: FTR) recently announced that the company’s three year investment to advance high speed internet service in Illinois surpassed $211 million including $72.2 million in 2013. In addition, many Frontier markets in Illinois will receive additional support this year totaling $1.84 million from the Federal Communication Commission’s Connect America Fund (CAF). CAF funding will allow Frontier to accelerate broadband availability further out into agricultural centers. Frontier offers broadband, digital phone service, satellite television service, Frontier satellite broadband, FTR Energy Services, Business and E911 equipment, MetroE, Dedicated Internet Access, data center services, and web security/data back-up/personal identity protection and more through Frontier Secure.

Frontier’s $211 million self-funded capital investment has greatly increased broadband access and improvednetwork infrastructure for Frontier customers. This investment in Illinois is vital to community and economic development, increasing opportunities for consumers, and supporting all types and sizes of businesses in the 552 towns Frontier serves across the state.

Frontier's operational and community-related highlights for Illinois in 2013 include:

·         Extensive investment and broadband expansion throughout Frontier territory in Illinois. As a result, at year-end 2013, Frontier was able to offer broadband to more than 52,000 additional Illinois households, and grew advancing speeds (with up to 40Meg) now ready for many existing customers.
·         Completion of a major upgrade to Frontier's Ethernet network in Bloomington-Normal. Upgrade included 5.2 miles of fiber optic cable, three redundant fiber rings and improvements to network infrastructure at 30 advanced network sites.
·         Awarded the Illinois Gigabit Communities Challenge Grant for $1.5 million to provide GigE in Carbondale.  As a result, Frontier will be able to offer up to 1G to the premise for homes and businesses with anticipated completion in 2014.
