Frontier to Receive $1.6 Million in Funding for Illinois From FCC Connect America Fund

Investment Supports Ongoing Broadband Expansion

BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Dec. 13, 2013 – Frontier Communications (NASDAQ: FTR) announced today that $1.6 million will be available from the Federal Communication Commission’s Connect America Fund (CAF) to continue the build-out of its broadband network in Illinois. The investment will make broadband available to an additional 2,571 households during the next three years in the following Illinois counties: Gallatin, Hancock, Henderson, Jersey, Johnson, Logan, McDonough, Mercer, Saline, Shelby, Tazewell, Union, Wabash, Warren and White.

“The additional funds from the CAF program allow Frontier to accelerate our already robust broadband build-out and network upgrade program for Illinois,” said President of Illinois Mike Flynn. “We will continue to invest aggressively in rural America during 2014. Frontier continues to seek every opportunity to increase broadband availability in its rural, high-cost, low-density areas,” Flynn said.

The Federal Communications Commission’s CAF program supports the expansion of broadband availability in unserved portions of rural America. Frontier applied for the funds in August 2013 and expects them to be released by the end of December. The funding supplements the $2.2 billion of private capital that Frontier has spent since July 2010 to increase broadband access and upgrade its network infrastructure.
