Earlybird Registration Available for Broadband Telemedicine Summit

May 20 Summit Spotlights the Intersection of High-Speed Internet and Healthcare

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, April 1, 2013 – Organizers of the inaugural Broadband Telemedicine Summit today announced more affordable categories of pricing tiers and robust additions to the event’s agenda.

Participants who register for the summit before April 15 are eligible for an early bird rate of $50. Discounts for students and public interest organizations are also available.

Agenda updates include a new session that focuses on providers of broadband and how high-speed internet infrastructure is being deployed to medical facilities. In addition, Governors from Illinois and Missouri will deliver remarks on the importance of broadband to the future of medicine.

Dr. Jay Sanders, President and CEO of Global Telemedicine Group, will moderate the event. Known to many as the “Father of Telemedicine,” Sanders developed the first statewide telemedicine system, the first correctional telemedicine program, the first tele-homecare technology, called the “Electronic House Call,” and the first telemedicine kiosk.

A central aspect of the Broadband Telemedicine Summit will be the creation of an action plan that will describe key steps for stimulating telemedicine practices.  Attendees will work with others in their states to carry out the action plans developed during the summit.

“We want this to be an innovative and interactive event,” said Anne Madonia, Communications Director at Broadband Illinois. “Ensuring that participants will walk away with a concrete, actionable plan to boost telemedicine services in their region is key.”

The Broadband Telemedicine Summit is a full-day event on Monday, May 20 at the Busch Student Center on the St. Louis University campus. A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at a special rate for participants who wish to spend Sunday, May 19 in St. Louis. The group block name is “Broadband Telemedicine Summit” and the booking ID is 1607.

Sponsorship opportunities for the Broadband Telemedicine Summit are still available. Organizations interested in sponsoring the event should contact anne.madonia@broadbandillinois.org.
