Survey of Illinois Households Examines Broadband Usage, Benefits, Barriers

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, April 22, 2013 – In a multi-faceted survey released earlier this month by Broadband Illinois, Illinois households rated fiber-optic internet connections highest in terms of speed, reliability and value. However, households in rural and isolated areas of Illinois are almost four times as likely to have a dial-up connection.

New Report Reveals Increases in Broadband Adoption and Usage Among Chicago's Smart Communities
SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, February 6, 2013 -- Residents in neighborhoods participating in Chicago’s Smart Communities program are using high-speed internet more frequently, but greater access to affordable broadband at home remains an issue for at-risk communities, according to new research released today on the Broadband Illinois website.
Finding and Nurturing New Internet Users

We've been collecting and publishing data about broadband supply for more than two years. We've submitted six rounds of this data to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the National Broadband Map. Our Broadband Illinois website features a plethora of resources, maps, and tools created with this information. Studying the ways Illinoisans adopt to and use broadband is another key piece of the "broadband picture."
