U.S. Cellular received four "Mobility Grants" for Illinois, totalling about $3.5 million. 

Washington, October 3, 2012 -- FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski today announced the winners of America’s first ‘Mobility Fund’ auction. This market-based policy innovation was part of the Commission’s once-in-a-generation reform of the Universal Service Program last year, which allocated $300 million in savings from cutting waste and inefficiency, to a new Mobility Fund aimed at closing gaps in mobile coverage across the U.S. The effort marks the first time in history the Commission has made universal mobile service an express universal service goal. 

Deadline Approaching for Illinois Broadband Innovation Fund

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, September 14, 2012 – Broadband enthusiasts across the state have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18 to submit proposals to the Illinois Broadband Innovation Fund. 

The fund prompts Illinois innovators to propose ways to improve quality of life through broadband usage, and up to $500,000 will be awarded to the most promising internet adoption and usage projects.

The Verizon Foundation is offering grants to nonprofit organizations throughout the nation that use technology-based approaches to domestic violence prevention, improving education, literacy or healthcare.
New Grant Opportunity: Digital Media for Learning in Libraries and Museums

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation identifies YouMedia as a model for libraries across the nation. The foundation’s new grant program, in conjunction with the federal Institute of Museum and and Library Services, plans to open 30 YouMedia learning environments in libraries and museums nationwide, said Connie Yowell, the foundation's director of education. Up to thirty prototype labs at up to $100,000 per lab will be funded. The deadline is August 15, 2011.
