Cities around the country are recognizing the value of Gigabit Networks to their economic development activities. A lot of attention has been focused on the dynamic impact that Google Fiber has had with its Gigabit-speed service in Kansas City; Austin, Texas; Provo, Utah; and now Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville and Raleigh.

But Google can't go everywhere. That's why more than 143 communities - including the Illinois cities of Aurora, Highland, Princeton, Rochelle, Rock Falls and Urbana - have developed fiber-optic telecommunications projects. Many other cities around the state and around the country are considering public-private partnership to deploy Gigabit Networks.

Come to a discussion of officials from the City of Highland and others as they review what they did to develop Gigabit Networks in their communities. Drew Clark, a licensed Illinois attorney, will discuss lessons that are emerging from around the country, many of which were brought up during Kirton McConkie’s four-part webinar series “How to Build Your Gigabit Network.” At this session, Clark will discuss the particular needs of cities in Illinois, the resources available to entities seeking to build or partner with others to build broadband networks, and the next steps for cities seeking to press forward with Gigabit Networks.
