National Funding Opportunities for Technology to Address Social Issues

The philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications, the Verizon Foundation is offering support to nonprofit organizations throughout the United States that address one of the following funding priorities: education, literacy, domestic violence prevention or technology for healthcare and healthcare accessibility.

The average grants range from $5,000 to $10,000. In 2009, the Verizon Foundation distributed approximately $68 million nationwide to support technology-based solutions to social issues. The application deadline is October 16, 2011. Non-profits can take an eligibility quiz and submit an online application.

The Foundation focuses its grants on supporting technology-based approaches to literacy and education for both adults and children, preventing domestic violence and helping victims gain independence, improving healthcare through technology, and helping people understand how to use the technology of the Internet safely.
