Alcatel-Lucent Events to Explore FirstNet, Cloud Technology

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, July 11, 2013 - FirstNet and the transition into what’s being called the Personal Cloud Era is the focus of two events led by Alcatel-Lucent July 17 and 18 in Naperville.

On Wednesday, July 17, the Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Dynamic Tour will convene global experts on how businesses and other enterprises can harness cloud technology to automate and unify data networks to improve communication operations and customer services.

On Thursday, July 18, Alcatel-Lucent will hold a seminar on FirstNet, NTIA’s nationwide campaign to improve communication technology for public safety services.

Broadband Illinois, the state’s non-profit broadband initiative will have a presence at both events.

Brad Housewright, the organization’s eTeams Director, said FirstNet is an extremely important program for the state, and he hopes to learn more about how LTE technology can advance communication for emergency personnel.

“I want to gain a better understanding of how Broadband Illinois eTeams need to best focus our efforts on aggregating and collaborating with stakeholders and providers in this process,” Housewright said.

The FirstNet seminar will examine the possibility of real-time first responder communications including voice, data, pictures, streaming video, and collaboration to enhance safety and decision making.

Enhanced wireless technology is essential to improve public safety entities. However, agency budgets and limited personnel skills are constraining emergency crews when it comes to mobile broadband adoption.

“We want to ensure Illinois is getting the best and most efficient public safety broadband network for responders,” Housewright said. “This effort will take the attention of many key industry sectors to get Illinois Firstnet up and running. We can't afford not to make this the most effective tool for our first responders.”

Organizers for Wednesday’s Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Dynamic Tour say the new “Personal Cloud Era” is heralded by three major trends that are reshaping the enterprise landscape by changing the way people want to communicate, or in essence, consume communications. Those trends are a consumer revolution; enabling users to take control, a technology evolution; leading IT departments to rethink architectures, and a business transformation; shifting to cloud-based service models.

Applications and services have become, and are expected to be, accessible from anywhere, at any time from any device, according to the tour’s website. This global and profound transformation compels enterprises to lead the change and guide their organization to the new PC Era. It touches their network infrastructure, devices, applications and all related services.

Speakers for the event in Naperville include Gus S. Vasilakis, Sr. Vice President for Alcatel-Lucent in North America, Andre Kindness, Principal Analyst at Forrester Research, David Antar, President of IPVideo Corporation, and George “Gee” Rittenhouse, President of Bell Labs.

The speakers will focus on how enterprises can harness cloud transformation opportunities, automating data centers, unifying networks for mobile enterprises, enabling businesses to capitalize on new technologies, energizing workforces and aligning customers service and business objectives.
