Broadband Innovation Tour Launches, Program Materials Released

Grant program aims to improve lives through high-speed Internet usage, deadline to apply is September 11

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois, August 17, 2012 – The Broadband Innovation Fund, a new high-speed internet adoption initiative from the Partnership for a Connected Illinois, kicked-off this week with two live webinars and stakeholder meetings at the Illinois State Library in Springfield.

Released yesterday, the request for proposals prompts applicants to develop a plan promoting the adoption and use of high-speed internet services to stimulate job creation, education, healthcare, agriculture, public safety, energy conservation, or eGovernment.

“We had more than 150 registered webinar participants in the past two days and the program is already generating a statewide interest,” said Anne Madonia-Hubbard, Program Manager. “This is an exciting program with a very broad RFP and we are encouraging applicants to come up with broadband solutions for everything from telemedicine to agriculture. We look forward to sharing more information on our Broadband Innovation Tour.”

The Broadband Innovation Tour is a series of webinars, stakeholder meetings, and question and answer sessions scheduled for eight cities across Illinois.

“The deadline to apply is September 11, so we want to promote the opportunity as heavily as possible,” said Madonia. “This is a great chance to encourage the uses and applications of high-speed networks across the state.”

Upcoming Broadband Innovation Tour dates include:

  • Wednesday, August 22 in Chicago
  • Thursday, August 23 in Mattoon
  • Friday, August 24 in Carbondale
